handmade original

I am lucky to own one of the last if not the only remaining hand made defenestration t-shirt courtesy of Tyson Meade himself. This is how it happened.

Back in the day I had asked Tyson to make me three defenestration t-shirts in exchange for photgraphing the band. Really it was more of his kind nature than a true contract. Anyway he made all the original shirts on sale at Shadowplay Records so it was nothing for him to crank out three more. After about week or so later I had three very distinct shirts all originals. One was all black and white and featured the original idea for the cover of "Dali Does Windows" dead center. I wish I had a scan of that now as it really showed Tyson's artistic creativity and would have been an excellent cover for that album. This was my favorite of the three. One was a total mishmash of the aforementioned Dali cover, the defenestration logo and colors flying everywhere. The final one is the one pictured above with the logo repeating twice on the front.

The outrageously colored one was I hate to say worn until it was shreds. Although I took great pains to hand wash and hang dry, 100% cotton can only take so much. The second was lost to my own foolishness and stupidity. I was living in San Diego with three women all of whom I trusted implicitly. That was my first mistake. (Trusting someone today merely means to me that you have just chosen the next person to screw you over.) And that is what happened. The Dali shirt was on loan to one of my roomates for the night and that lousy crack stole it and lied about it later. That was the least of it all but I don't want to digress. Tyson himself wasn't immune to "fans" making off with his shirts either. The "Nuevo Wavo" shirt itself, seen in the gallery section, was stolen from the backstage area of a show they once played.

The final shirt as you may have guessed is lovingly cared for and only makes a rare public appearence like at 17 year reunion shows. The Shroud of Turin is probably seen more often in public than this shirt but I am now happy to be able to be able to share it with you through the wonderful magic of the internet. Cheers.
